Poland is a democracy, with a president, who is elected by popular vote every five years, as the head of state. The bicameral parliament chosen in elections consists of a 460-member lower house (Sejm) and a 100-member Senate (Senat). The Polish government structure centers on a Council of Ministers, led by a prime minister. The president appoints the cabinet according to recommendations submitted by the prime minister, and chosen from the majority coalition in the Sejm.
